Why Skidmore? Because I'm learning to lead [Video]

December 28, 2018
by Elizabeth Levy '20

At Skidmore, creativity influences the way students think, communicate and solve problems. It’s everywhere you look, in and out of the classroom … and the pool, as I've experienced.

My professors and coaches have challenged my creativity and made my think outside the box. The result: I feel more confident as a leader and learner.

MY STORY

“My name is Elizabeth Levy and I’m a sophomore. My major is religious studies and I have an Italian minor as well.

“I’m on the swim team here at Skidmore and I’m also a captain this year. This season, I actually broke one of the College’s records in the 200 butterfly. That was really exciting.

“Being a student athlete is tough but very rewarding. It’s definitely taught me a lot of very important skills, like time management and prioritizing.

“One thing I really love about Skidmore and my experience here in the classroom is professors really push you to think outside of the box and push you out of your comfort zone. I definitely feel like I’ve grown a lot as a student.

“Swimming is an interesting sport because I think a lot of people think about it as an individual sport. But, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do in the water without my teammates. We push each other every day in practice and encourage each other. When we get to big meets we have individual goals, but we are also representing Skidmore and our team, so we also keep in mind that we’re a part of a bigger group.”
